Fall 2021 Jeffrey Court Renovation Challenge: Week 6
Ready to see the ‘DRAB to FAB’ bathroom reveal?
I can’t believe I was able to pull this off. What a whirlwind 6 weeks. From surprise hidden windows behind the walls to layers upon layers of flooring, I wasn’t sure it was going to happen.
Remember where we started?
Well, look at her now! One of the happiest bathrooms I ever did see. I design my spaces to spark a feeling. Since this is right in our entry and a shared space by many, I wanted it to be joyful and bright.
I thought it would be fun to break down my thought process for each element.
This Aquamarine tile by Jeffrey Court was already beautiful. I love the calming color and the variation in each of the tiles. They look handmade. As I was installing them, I felt like I was seeing clouds in the sky! I’m not going to lie….when I approached the grouting phase, I started to doubt myself. I really don’t see colored grout too often and definitely not in real life. Lucky for me, I had a deadline. No time to second guess...time to do the dang thing. Once I smeared my first float full of this dark teal grout, I didn’t look back. The Fresh White 4x12 tiles were a lifesaver. Being a rookie, I didn’t really plan my wall and curb out well. So I ended up needing a wider tile. Luckily, Jeffrey Court has so many options that it was easy to find a rescue option. And that Basalt Herringbone!!! Dreamy and so soft on the feet!
The floors were a tricky choice. We needed something easy to remove in the event that we change out the floors when we remodel the rest of the house. When I saw this LVP flooring that looked like concrete, I thought it would play nicely with the various tiles without taking away from it.
The vanity was upcycled. A simple paint job with the help of my Wagner Sprayer and my trusty Frog Tape really gave this dark dated looking piece a fresh face. I’m a really big fan of simple wooden knobs. Not only are they uncommon, but they are super cost effective. And in such a modern space, I think it’s nice to balance the design out with some natural elements.
This brings me to the counter! Zebra wood wasn’t my first idea for the counters. I was going to go for a quartz slab. When I found out it wasn’t going to be an option due to scheduling, I pivoted quickly to wood. Zebra wood comes with a hefty price tag, but I think it’s a really special element. So glad I went for it.
Choosing a funky faucet is always an easy and inexpensive way to make a space feel unique. Maybe a fun faucet will convince my littlest to brush her teeth a little more often.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you know that I can’t help but to paint a mural on the wall and infuse some bold color. I didn’t mind the bathroom without it, but I really thought it would be nice to have one more color in there to balance out all of the blue. It’s amazing how a simple stripe can totally change the vibe. Since this bathroom is for my three daughters, it’s only fitting that I include a mural of the 3 Sisters mountain range topographical map. With the help of a projector and some of my delicate surface yellow Frog Tape (my paint on the wall was not fully cured) I was able to pull both of these elements off so quickly.
I really hope you are inspired to think outside the box on your next project. After all, we only live once, right?!
One more huge shout out to the awesome sponsors of this challenge. Jeffrey Court, Wagner and Frog Tape…..THANK YOU for giving budding designers like me a platform to create and inspire. Literally couldn’t have done it without you all!
